Local Stamps Issued
April 1, 1989
Since 1989, stamps with a local flavor have been issued. These stamps show well-known places, events, scenes or customs of the region in Japan where the stamp is issued. Their aim is to reflect a postal service in touch with the region.
The design and subject matter of the stamps is decided by the post offices in the area and the stamp is issued only in that region. This was the first time in Japan that different regions issued stamps which had different designs.
