Changes in Japanese Stamps Uniform (9/13)

(Personnel Working Outdoors During the Second World War)

OOThe Pacific War broke out in 1941 and a considerable number of women were employed as collection and delivery personnel. A uniform for women appeared in 1943. It consisted of a jacket with belt coupled with long trousers with a drawstring at the bottom hem in winter and pleated culotte-type riding pants in summer. Additional garments included a women's overcoat with belt, open-collared rain gear and a hat similar to a mountain climbing hat.
Female Outdoor EmployeeOAs the war situation worsened, materials were in increasingly short supply and it became difficult to replace clothing. Just as the situation reached a critical stage, however, the war came to an end.
