A square sheet iron mailbox with a large container was designed to accommodate the growing number of mail articles. It was used on a trial basis at the beginning of 1951 and was officially adopted in December of the same year. |
From 1948 special delivery mail was to be posted in mailboxes along with ordinary mail. The first mailbox exclusively for special delivery mail articles appeared in 1956. It was a light blue, round, iron mailbox. The mailbox shown in the photo above dates from 1965. |

This new mailbox starting appearing in August 1966. It was used in areas where relatively small amounts of mail were posted. Its container was smaller than that of the Number 7 mailbox and had a more efficient structure. |
This new mailbox had a pillar but functioned like a suspended mailbox. It was designed for use in locations where a suspended mailbox could not be installed. It was suitable for areas where the mail volume was light or in the residential areas of modern city suburbs. It was adopted in 1974. |
