To reflect changes in society, four new types of mailboxes have been produced experimentally. The letter drop was made slightly larger and the total height was reduced. These mailboxes were put to use on a trial basis at four locations in Tokyo in January 1994. They can accommodate large articles and are designed for easy use by elderly and handicapped people.
