The pointed leek hat and Western-style uniform appeared. (Combining traditional Japanese-style hats with Western-style clothing was typical of the period of Westernization.)

The red postal logo, a circle with a horizontal stroke inside was marked on the hat.

At the establishment of the postal service (1872)

The black woolen collar had a red mark and the sleeves were marked by a circle with a horizontal stroke inside. The trousers had a red stripe down the outer side. (The red marks were intended to make postal service employees stand out.)
